What Do You Get?

Perhaps this is the best (only true?) love song that Stephen Sondheim ever wrote. There are some incredible versions out there by a host of gentlemen who have played Bobby in Company: John Barrowman, Julian Ovenden, Raúl Esparza, Bronson Pinchett, Neil Patrick Harris, and most recently in a gender-swap London production Robin Craig. I’ve chosen NPH because it is the more complete. Listen to some of the comments from Bobby’s friends.

I’ll just leave it here for everyone and a special one on this Valentine’s Day.

Don’t afraid that it won’t be perfect, the only thing to be afraid of really is that it won’t be.

The word for February 14th:
alive /əˈlīv/: [adjective]
living, not dead; alert and active; animated; knowing or realizing the existence of something; aware of a situation; attentive and open (to).
circa 1200, “in life, living,” contraction of Old English on life “in living, not dead,” from a+ dative of lif . The full form on live was still current in the 1600s.
