While wandering through the maze of Recommended for You, Continue Watching, Fans Also Watched et al on YouTube I came across this lovely performance. It stood out because it, unlike many of the previous categories, reflects one of my tastes in music.

In March of 1855 the 15 year old Josef Rheinberger first set this brief sentence from the Gospel of St Luke to music. The German text of Abendlied (Evening Song) was taken from Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible and is from the story of the encounter on the Road to Emmaus. He was to revised it nine years later correcting the markings and repetitions. It was finally published in 1873 under Drei geistliche Gesänge für gemischten Chor (Three sacred songs for mixed choir).

On this day in 1941: Charles Lindbergh testifies before the U. S. Congress and recommends that the United States negotiate a neutrality pact with Adolf Hitler.
