My friend David ushers at one of the arts venues in his city and having sat through 12 performances of The Nutcracker this year was seriously questioning my comment about the magic of the dance. My response was – he should have tried dancing it the 20 or 30 times like members of their local company. That brilliant piece of repartee reminded me of a far more erudite response from someone at the Pennsylvania Ballet when an Pittsburgh Eagles fan suggested that the team had played “like they were wearing tutus!”
As I said – never mess with a ballerina, you might get more than you bargained for!
On this day in 1871: Gilbert and Sullivan collaborate for the first time, on their lost opera, Thespis. It does modestly well, but the two would not collaborate again for four years.
Great comeback!
what a hard life for these charming young women, you are right to do them justice . They look like rosebuds. very touching.
Oh, football players, they don’t have the balls to be ballerinas!
