Island Vacations

As has become apparent to anyone reading Larry Muffin‘s recent posts or my entries on Facebook we are heading to an island for our winter vacation.  Ah yes an island you say! Which one?  St Kitts?  Barbados? Grand Bahama?  In which tropical paradise will we be swanning by the pool slathered in SP72 while sipping exotic rum concoctions garnished with sprigs of fresh mint and skewers of pineapple and mango?

Oh come now! Do you really think we would do anything as predictable as that?

No we’ll be proving ourselves real sons of the True North, strong and free(zing) by braving the winds and waves (frozen no doubt) of February on Prince Edward Island.

And as the song says:

If we can make it there,
we’ll make it anywhere!
It’s up to you PEI!
It’s up to you!

And in the meantime we’ve been studying up on Island history with the often amusing and always interesting PEI History Guy. Give him a read – there’s much to learn about the place we may shortly be calling home.

On this day in 1739: Battle of Karnal: The army of Iranian ruler Nader Shah defeats the forces of the Mughal emperor of India, Muhammad Shah.

  1. I’m trying to think of a more practical vacation in the history of holidays… nope. I got nuttin’. Will you also eat lots of fiber and have a high colonic on this exotic getaway? (hee hee)

  2. Such a lovely photo of PEI… And I never knew the real lyrics of that song either. I’m really looking forward to your shared experiences. Hope it’s a wonderful island getaway.

  3. Moving to PEI! What the??? Are you guys just not bored enough with life or what? Lol. I mean how many potato museums can one go to? One day Will you are going to wake up and find Laurent wearing one of those Ann of Green Gables wigs, with the red side braids and all! Is that what you want (maybe)! The first picture must be the southern part of the island, I would move there if you must go. Lol.

  4. Do you really mean ‘making shortly home’ or making home for a short while’, ie staying there for a bit? Dramatic if the former.

  5. Fascinating. Is PEI considered an ‘island” (with all its associations) or a province (which does not conjure up palm trees and such)?
